Gritty psychological drama about a young man who is forced to make a life-changing choice during WWII. Leaving his German-run university after his collaborator father is murdered, 21-year-old Francois (Gregoire Leprince-Ringuet) returns to his home in Luxembourg.
With the country under the control of the Nazis, Francois is forced to make a choice between conscription, which means fighting the allies on the western front, or joining a group of deserters hiding out in dire conditions in iron mines in the countryside. After deciding to join the resistance led group, the previously withdrawn Francois soon finds himself having to learn the harshest of life's lessons under the most difficult of circumstances.
