I really enjoy time travel movies - at least, those with some interesting loops and twists (e.g., Primer). As another review states, this is often compared to Fluxx - and in my opinion, there's a good reason for that. The changes that can happen are so devastating that it can be almost impossible to play strategically. It's rather difficult to predict whether someone could perform an action that just turns the whole game on its head. I wanted to give it a try because I was interested in the mechanic: parts of the timeline being changed affects future points in time. But ultimately you're just waiting to draw the right cards. Until you have the right cards, you can't do much. There's also an odd feature where you can collect artefacts and win that way, depending on your mission. That mission is entirely independent of the timeline part of the game. You could get rid of the timetravel theme altogether and still win this game just by collecting artefacts. It's almost like you're playing two separate games at once

Some people compare this game to Fluxxx, which I played a few days ago for the first time, too. I didn't much like that one because it's too random. Chrononauts is superior in my books as it allows you to play strategically. I loved the concept of time travel and alternate realities which can happen if you change any lynchpin events. I'm not into sci-fi mostly but this game caught my imagination. The artwork isn't too amazing (but then again this came out in 2000), and sometimes the cards are too text heavy. Other than that it was a fun game and I'd definitely play it again now that I understand it better.
