I played 'The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion' a year back and actually enjoyed it, though the game was so complex it took a lot of my attention to fully understand what I was doing. Skyrim definitely eases the player into it a lot more this time over, making for more of an immersive experience because you don't have to spend as much time thinking about what to do.
The way the game is made, you have the option of playing your character any way you want. So, if you're impatient and want to just run in and smash someones face in, then a melee approach is for you. If you want to take your time and pick your targets, maybe more of a rogue-like approach. I personally went for the spellcaster approach and absolutely fell in love with it. A creative level up system means you level up quickly, just by playing the game however you want to.
The only downside I can think of for Skyrim were the occasional bugs in the game and lag spikes caused by the outstanding graphics being slightly too much for my console to handle. All round top notch game and really can't find much fault with it - must buy for anyone who likes their RPGs/Fantasy games.
