    Product Description

Dead of Winter A Crossroads Board Game

An epic struggle for power and survival!

Crossroads is a new series from Plaid Hat Games that tests a group of survivors ability to work together and stay alive while facing crises and challenges from both outside and inside.

Dead Of Winter is the first game in this series, designed by Isaac Vega and Jon Gilmour. It puts 2-5 players together in a small, weakened colony of survivors in a world where most of humanity are either dead or diseased, flesh-craving monsters. Each player leads a faction of survivors with dozens of different characters in the game.

Dead of Winter is a meta-cooperative psychological survival game. This means the players are working together toward one common victory condition but for each individual player to achieve victory they must also complete their personal secret objective. This secret objective could relate to a psychological tick that's fairly harmless to most others in the colony, a dangerous obsession that could put the main objective at risk, a desire for sabotage of the main mission or worst of all vengeance against the colony! Certain games could end with all players winning, some winning and some losing or all players losing. Work toward the group's goal but don't get walked all over by a loud-mouth who's only looking out for their own interests.

Dead of Winter is an experience that can only be accomplished through the medium of tabletop games. It is a story-centric game about surviving through a harsh winter in an apocalyptic world. The survivors are all dealing with their own psychological imperatives but must still find a way to work together to fight off outside threats, resolve crises, find food and supplies and keep the colony's morale up.

Dead of Winter has players making frequent, difficult, heavily-thematic, wildly-varying decisions, that often have them deciding between what is best for the colony and what is best for themselves.

This one did a good job at amking people suspicious of each other. Anyone could be a traitor, planning to ruin the colony. This is not a tactic game with deitaled fights, it is a strategic management and survival challenge. Luck does not hurt the design and you can always put some soundescape to make it an awesome experience.

Dead of Winter is a fun, albeit stressful, survival horror game. The game highlights exactly what I enjoy about the Zombie Apocalypse genre; that while zombies are pretty bad, your fellow humans can actually be worse. The constant fear of the chance another player is a traitor makes this game intense, stressful, and then ultimately either rewarding or enraging! This, alongside the great narrative as told by the Crossroads cards, and the excitement of a 1/12 dice roll chance of insta-death for your character, makes Dead of Winter sit amongst my favourite games. I strongly recommend for anyone who enjoys getting into their characters, and co-operation games with the chance of betrayal. The only caution I will raise is that crossroads do not trigger that often- once or twice per game is the norm. However, as they can be quite game changing (either for good or bad) I believe this is the correct amount. The crossroads trigger under very specific circumstances, which ultimately leads to a better narrative in my opinion. Therefore your expectation should be readjusted to those who think this game will be ‘all story’ - I find most of the story is told by role playing your characters and their secret objectives. The crossroads are a fun (but daunting!) event that happens once or twice per game.

First heard about in from the Will Wheaton's TableTop series. It's a very neat concept. It plays out very well in different scenarios and the gameplay adapts quite well from 2 to 5 players. Although the rules might seem like a lot at first, there's a lot of sensibility to them and once you get the hang of them, the game becomes super fun to play! The components are top notch and the crossroad cards add a wonderful story like aesthetic to the game.

This game was one of the biggest surprises in my gaming experience. I didn’t particularly want it, but got on Christmas as a gift, and what an amazing gift it turned out to be. The premise of the game and the gameplay is very simple, but it’s the little nuances, like which scenario we are playing, random crossroads cards helping or hindering the progress, or the paranoia with which we look at every other player’s actions as they can be the betrayer. Oh, did I also mention you need to kill zombies, clean trash pile, feed the useless survivors, and so on. There are so many things that we need to keep in mind and micromanage that most of the time we will find ourselves torn out between doing what we have planned, what is best for the group, or anything not to be eaten by the zombies. This is not the best game in the world, but it is definitely the best zombie game out there.

Psst...there are plenty of survival zombie games on consoles with fancy graphics, but nothing else will make you feel like you are in Walking Dead than this. This game pits you against zombies in dire circumstances which usually gets more challenging and desperate with each round, managing your limited resources, making tough decisions, utilising your character's unique abilities to your advantage, these are just some of exciting things you'll experience when you play a game of Dead of Winter, With plenty of scenario, characters to choose from, every playthrough is as interesting and challenging as the last.
