There was a time when you really had "to get there" to make a good movie.
And so this was really shot over there in Japan. With a crew and a cast that had never done anything like that before. They had a pretty good story laid out by James Clavell and man, did they nail it! A perfect cinemastic adaption that cruely and truly captures the wonders of two civilisations merging during the colonial aera.
Shogun is one of those movies that really gets you in touch with a complete different civilisation from a complete different time.
As it is hard for Captain Blackthorne to get his grips on the japanese Samurai he begins to see a marvel in this different culture that entirely changes his believes - a somewhat very brave and openminded statement of an american author from the time of Pearl Harbour and the japan war.
