Munchkin is based on dungeon crawl games. In it, players will be trying to be the first one to get to the big treasure room. To do this, players will be making their way through the dungeon by fighting monsters, and along the way picking loot and cards that will give them skills and equipment to aid them in their journey. The game is a easy take that kind of game, where players are trying to advance forward while trying to keep others from reaching the end. One of the charms of it is the parody nature of the game. For anyone familiar with dungeon crawls, that art and words on the cards will be very appealing. The game is light and very easy to get into. But the issue I have is that games often last too long, and I feel like "I wish someone would just win already." The game is entertaining and fun, but just drags on too much. The bonus with the deluxe edition is that it comes with character pawns and a board to show everyone's progress, which is quite nice.

Munchkins is a card game which draws it's basis off the many role playing fantasy games. The game is a complete parody while still providing a solid game play which is both fun and strategic. It is fast paced and very tounge in cheek. The maker says it "captures the essence of the dungeon experience...with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff." Simple, fast paced and full of fun, buy this one...

Amazing game!! So many different ways the game can end up, one minute your winning and the next your friend stabs you in the back. If you like role playing games such as d&d this is a great game to keep you occupied between sessions. Loads of expansion packs are available and they all work together to make the game more interesting.

I had heard a lot of positive buzz about this game from friends abroad so I made a birthday present out of it to a dear friend. We had a great time playing it, and the humour of the cards is certainly something we had never seen the likes of in a game before. Definitely one of the best aspects of Munchkin. I am very glad I got the Deluxe version because I recently played with someone on the strictly card version. Having the board and the colorful figures to keep track of your progress is a significant improvement, and only the Deluxe version contains them. One word of caution: the game can become a bit predictable over time. We find that it always goes like this: a few rounds where we all amass races/classes/weapons in order to improve our character, then the moment someone starts advancing ahead, we all turn against them, cut that player down to size, then someone else is on top, and repeat. It becomes a bit of a long struggle till someone gets lucky with the cards and they win. Unfortunately the only way to counter this is to indulge in one of the gazillion expansions for this game every now and then. We don't play Munchkin much anymore ourselves, but I know others who love the game to bits. I think ultimately it depends on how complex you like your games, but personally, while I am not in love with Munchkin anymore, I am still fond of it.
