Had this game, but my ex stole it from me way back. I am so happy I have it again. It is even better with expansions!

Really great board game for up to 6 players full of intrigue and ,as the title says, betrayal. The basics of the game are very easy to learn , the game is easy to setup but it does require a fairly large table or other surface if the game takes too long, due to the sheer amount of tiles that come with the game that get revealed over time. The various scenarios that can happen keep the game fresh and fun even after a few dozen runs, plus the random deck of cards make sure you'll rarely get the same event twice. Highly recommended to get the expansion for the game as well as it adds way more events, tiles, scenarios and even new mechanics to the game. This is the perfect game for a party night for people who are beginners are board games since it's very easy to pick up and learn to play. A few scenarios are a bit unbalanced but it's not a big deal.

This is a fantastic game! Betrayal at House on the Hill looks very intimidating, but don't be scared away: it breaks down simply into two parts. Firstly, the exploration phase: you and your fellow players explore the haunted house, obtaining items and overcoming challenges in the new rooms you find, changing your characters' stats along the way, while randomly generating a new house each time you play. Some items, called 'Omens' can prompt the second part of the game to begin; each time you find one, roll some dice and see if you have to start... ... the Haunt! Once this stage begins, the tension really cranks up! Someone, or something, in the house will be trying to kill/capture/cuddle-with-teeth/sneak past (delete as appropriate) the survivors, one of whom may also be working for the forces of evil! Now you have to try to meet a certain goal, whilst very importantly not dying. The first game takes a fair while to finish (and this is now a speedy game anyway!), as while everything is quite simple and self-explanatory there is quite a bit going on! I would not recommend this for a group of beginner board gamers, but as long as there are a couple of experienced heads in the room everyone should be able to figure out the rules. The only pitfall this game really has is there are a few places in the rules where there is some ambiguity. However (as it states in the manual) the best action to take here is to apply some of that elusive common sense I have heard so much about. This is more than made up for by how much fun this game is, and how much replay-ability it has! Absolutely fantastic!
