Now this one is a gem.
As a wind-sports fanatic (kitesurfing and surfing) I had to have such a gizmo mounted on my house.
I took an old Sat-antenna-base and put the rod (the external sensors come with) into it. I got a perfect mast then with the windspeed, direction and themperature sensors on top of it an top of our building.
Yes I do have to get once a year on the roof to change batteries (but ONLY once due to the fact that you can attach a little OregonScientific solar panel driving the unit most of the year!)
The receiver on the other hand drains the rechargeable batteries I use with it every two to four days. Yes you can also use the base with a power-adaptor if you are ok with making it stationary by doing so.
Well the usb connection is intended to be used with some not sooo well outlayed PC programs and is the only way to have your data stored beyond the 28days memory the station can hold.
The station is pretty accurate
